Annual Report 2015 Growing – Evolving - Serving - ndsm.org. In 2014 we began depression screening for patients 14 and older, and in 2015 we began offering the opportunity for individual counseling by a licensed Master Social Worker who is a full-time NDSM volunteer. NDSM has been here for 35 years, helping our less fortunate neighbors when they have a need: to keep them housed and fed in an emergency, to help them with medical issues, to provide education and training to help them achieve financial stability, and in a host of other ways. Additionally, we began offering English as a Second Language classes two evenings a week at NDSM many years ago. These continue, but we’ve reached out to deliver instruction off-site at three locations.

Building on this, because of our collaborative partnerships, because of all the contributions of time and resources made by our volunteers, our covenant congregations, other non-profits and foundations, government agencies, the business community and our neighbors, NDSM is much stronger and more useful to our community. By providing emergency aid, medical care and healthy food (among other forms of aid) NDSM prevents thousands of clients each year from falling into an abyss that can lead to chronic dependency, homelessness, disease and death. We expanded our ESL efforts, holding classes at NDSM and at the former Chapel Hills Presbyterian Church. Grace Presbytery is providing that building at no cost and also permitting us to house VMLC’s companion early child education program there.
ADDRESSING NEEDS One Client at a Time - ndsm.org. NDSM strives to be proactive, nimble and efficient in designing and delivering programs and services to the less fortunate who live among us, and COVID has certainly put us to the test over the last two years.
