Hi I am wondering how to convert all the white areas of the following image to transparent: Essentially I just created a black rectangle and on top of this the white text and star shape. I would like all the areas that are white to be transparent (including the black areas beneath the white) so that when I save the artboard as a png file the areas that are white will be transparent. Saving Illustrator file as PDF washes out colors and loses outer glow. From another angle, so, I’ve just completed a project made in Illustrator.

It's important to note that, when I save it as a PDF and open it in Adobe Acrobat Professional and Preview on my Mac, the colors appear to be washed out. The text is no longer a deep black and looks rather gray. Also, the outer glow doesn’t seem to be there anymore. says its 100% but its not - Adobe Illustrator - Creative COW. In relation to this, illustrator groups the shapes together even though one shape is no longer there.
