From another angle, i'm just making this list to help anyone that needs reference, on what strings did their favourite bassist use , maybe they want to try it, and see if that works for them. Im trying to record something and when i listen back, it sounds good - except for the horribly noticeable string noise. im playing a 3 note chord and then sliding that... "Clacking" noise against frets...How to fix? I picked up a bass to use for learning to do setups and stuff and here is what I am trying to fix: It is a 5-string bass. The Low B and E strings make a "clacking" sound (kinda like Fieldy's bass tone). Where would be the best place to start making adjustments to try and get rid of the... This perspective suggests that, buzz when not touching strings - TalkBass.com. It means the bass wiring needs to be shielded or the shielding that's there is not properly grounded.

Since touching the strings makes the buzz go away that says that the bridge is indeed properly grounded. (you can test it with a meter) Does your bass have shielding? If not one possibility is that the new pickups use unshielded wires while the originals used shielded wires. New simple method to clean and revitalize old strings!.
