Modelo Especial Clone? | Homebrew Talk - Beer, Wine, Mead, & Cider .... I really like Modelo Especial but all I can find is Negra clones.

I know its similar to any other light lager but does anybody have any suggestions? I like Tecate also but its not quite the same. Furthermore, remove foil from Modelo Bottles ? Any one re use Modelo * bottles and if so, any tips on getting that glued foil off?

According to Modelo First brewed in Tacuba, Mexico in 1925, Modelo Negra, formerly Negra Modelo, is a medium-bodied lager with slow-roasted caramel malts brewed for a rich, smooth taste. From another angle, brewed longer to enhance its flavors, Modelo Negra redefines "Dark Beer" because it is exceptionally drinkable and remarkably smooth. Trying to make a modelo especial clone, so as of now this is what my recipe looks like (which I have not brewed yet) 1.044 SG 1.011 FG ABV 4.4 18.6 IBU 3.6 SRM 53.2% Pilsner malt (Weyermann) 20.7% vienna malt (Weyermann) 23.6% flaked corn 2.5% Melanoiden malt (Weyermann) Mash at 152° 60... This beer is really good and will be one I keep making.

It's important to note that, i was a little worried about pitching a single pack for a lager but I did and all worked well. My wife and I compared it to the real Modelo and this one was much better! Modelo Especial is the biggest selling beer in the U. but then so was Bud Light for a long time. Additionally, if you want something that won't interfere with the taste of your tacos, chips and guacamole, Especial is fine. My SWMBO likes Negra Modelo enough that she bought a 6 pack after trying one I was drinking at a Mexican restaurant.

Did some "searching" and there seems to be some disagreement as to weather it's an Austrian Pilsner (can't find a BJCP discription of this style) or a Munchen Dunkel. Substitute yeast for a "Mexican Lager" (Negra Modelo). I'm planning to brew a Negra Modelo inspired beer, knowing I probably won't hit it exactly and that's OK. It looks like I'll need to choose between various Wyeast options for it. I'd like to hit it somewhat closely, or at least not add unwanted flavors.

I'm currently debating between: * 2124... Modelo recently took over as the number one seller after the Bud Light publc relations mis-step. First remember those people were buying Bud Light to begin with.
