APS is being very cagey about this because the lexia data is showing that many many kids are way behind in reading. They don't want to disclose this. My 5th grader tested around grade 3 1/2. Not sure actual levels-was never told.

Equally important, lexia has 5 areas of instruction. My understanding is that it places the student at the lowest level they score in any one area, because the program doesn’t allow different levels for different areas.

If you think your AAP snowflake is too good for Lexia, then talk to the school about it, but everyone I've talked to (parents, teacher, the reading specialist at our school who is a neighbor/friend) has only had good things to say about it ... What level Lexia is your 3rd grader? Lexia is still used within the classroom. It was strictly prohibited at home during 3rd grade orientation.

My DC is in level 15 or 16 but, from what I understand from talking to a teacher, it’s not much of an indicator of high performance. For Lexia— you could ask for a progress update. Is DC working at a good accuracy rate, working on grade level material, completing the weekly assignment? If the pre-assessment was done without headphones and they were placed below grade level you could ASK for the pre-assessment to be reset. (Caveat— this erases all of their Lexia progress!
